SCANDINAVIAN COVERS

Classic pulp covers from a Finnish series featuring Eddie Constantine, plus some Finnish Manhattans, two Danish series and the Swedish Manhattan list.
FINLAND
DENMARK large format paperbacks – published from 1946 by Westermann with a flap on the back cover which folds twice and is tucked into the book to make a false spine and held with a seal-style sticker.

SWEDEN

The B Wahlström Publishing Company - founded in Sweden in 1911 - beagn the Manhattan series in the early 1950s, with similar authors to the French Presses de la Cité list. The covers for the Manhattan books were illustrated from the start by Bertil Hegland, now a legendary figure in Swedish publishing. A list of the Cheyney titles are at the bottom of this page.

The first cover below, for Mannen är farlig, was a special edition published in 1943, the English version of which was forbidden for sale outside Sweden. Many thanks to Iwan Morelius for the information and many of the images below.
