PAN EDITIONS

Pan Books was registered on 1 September 1944, jointly owned by Alan Bott and The Book Society, which he founded in 1929.

In 1945 they published their first title, a collection, called Tales of the Supernatural. The first of the Cheyneys on the Pan list was number 40, The Stars are Dark, published in 1948. The other titles were numbered: 139, 172, 224, 272, 277, 332, 381, 432, G108, G160, G257, G280, G317, G407, G352, G510, G471, G616 and G647.
